How to spec your craft beer labels

Start with a rectangle label sized to the flat area of your bottle, then choose gloss BOPP for colour-heavy artwork or a clear label if you want the glass to show through. Order a 250-label pilot for a new beer, check how it applies on your line, and move to a full run once you are happy with placement.

Make the artwork work

Leave a few millimetres of breathing room between your ABV, volume and legal copy and the label edge, and keep fine text at a readable size on dark backgrounds. Bold, high-contrast artwork reads best under cooler lighting.

How many beer labels should I order per batch?+

Most small breweries order close to the number of bottles in a batch plus a small allowance for waste during application. Digital printing means you can order 250 to test a new design, then reprint the winner in larger quantities.

Are the labels suited to condensation and ice?+

Our standard BOPP labels are waterproof, which suits cold storage and ice buckets. Test a short run on your own bottles and your own application and chilling process before a large order, since glass, filling temperature and humidity all matter.

Can I use the same artwork for cans and bottles?+

You can reuse the artwork, but bottle labels and can-wrap labels have different size and curve needs. Tell us the container and we will help you set the label size and cut before you approve your free proof.
